At OBI, one of the critical components to success is family involvement in the programs to help their family achieve success. The family gets to observe, receive an education in ABA and apply what our team members model and implement. Families will gain the confidence to apply these strategies and achieve similar success when on their own.
At OBI, we provide the convenience of giving in-home ABA services, which means we work with the family member and family in a familiar environment where challenges present themselves. We provide training and support in these areas. The training helps ensure that skills are learned and generalized in the family members' home and community settings.
In addition to family members being involved and working in familiar environments, it's also vital that we celebrate with the family member the personal milestones they achieve throughout their ABA journey by receiving rewards. Rewards are essential to ABA in that they help increase appropriate functional behaviors or encourage the learning and continual use of new skills. Rewards come in many forms but motivate the family member to continue learning a new skill or increase appropriate behavior. Natural reinforcers are a few different ways we provide and model reinforcement. A natural reinforcer example would be a Dad simply saying, "Great Job!" or access to a favorite snack for the extra effort to learn a new skill.
